OKeh Rhythm & Blues Story 1949-1957(Sony/ Columbia Legacy 1993)
One of the major R&B/Jump Bleus labels of the 1950s and 1960s, Okeh Records was home to hundreds of one-hit wonders throughout the dawn of Rock and Roll. This three disc boxed set catalogues many of the lesser-known one-hit wonders like Chuck Willis, The Ravens, The Treniers, Jumpin Joe Williams (prior to his dropping the "Jumpin" label and joining Count Basie) and (my particular favorite off this set) Mr. Google Eyes with Billy Ford and his Musical V-8s. Most of the 78 songs are fantastic for dancing; 21 of the 78 songs were previously unreleased. |
