There are plenty of places to Lindy Hop in Austin on almost any night of the week given the tremendous music scene here in the Live Music Capital of the World.  (There really is no place like Austin for live music, especially Electric Blues.)  A walk down 6th street on any night of the week will give you five different danceable blues bands.  Whether you will find room to dance or people to dance with you is another matter.

In short, there are regular Lindy Hop venues three nights a week: Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.  Austin Lindy Hop hosts a Jazz Cafe Jam Session on Wednesday nights at The American Legion Mansion, which sometimes features live music.  The Austin Swing Syndicate hosts a DJ'ed dance on Thursday evenings at the Texas Women's Federation ("The Fed") near the University of Texas campus on 24th Street (between Guadalupe and Lamar at San Gabriel).  Click here for the Austin Swing Syndicate website for specific directions.  Four on the Floor also hosts a weekly DJ'ed practice session on Tuesdays at The Fed.

Mondays

Antones, on 5th Street just West of Congress, hosts "Blue Mondays," with some rather danceable Blues that usually attracts a good crowd of Lindy Hoppers.  Cover is free before 9:00.  Good live blues is always available on 6th Street (between Congress and I-35).

The Elephant Room (315 Congress--on Congress between 3rd and 4th Streets) also has a weekly jam session of live Jazz music, hosted by our friend and softball compatriot, Mike Mordecai.  There is little room to dance and the music is more of the sit-and-listen type than the dance type, but it is really a great place to go sit and watch Jazz.

Tuesdays

After classes on Tuesdays, Four on the Floor opens the Texas Women's Federation ("The Fed") ballroom up for a practice session from 9:30 until 11:30 or so.  Cover is now $2.  The Fed is located near the University of Texas campus on West 24th Street (between Guadalupe and Lamar at San Gabriel).

Wednesdays

Thursdays

The Austin Swing Syndicate hosts a large DJ'ed dance in a beautiful ballroom at the Texas Women's Federation ("The Fed"), near the University of Texas campus on West 24th Street (between Guadalupe and Lamar at San Gabriel).  Cover charge is only $2 for Syndicate members, $4 for non-members.  Click here for the Austin Swing Syndicate website for specific directions.

Fridays

Friday nights are "date nights."  (In other words, there is no regular dance venue.)  People tend to congregate at various venues, depending on who is playing where.

Saturdays

Once a month, the Austin Swing Syndicate sponsors a dance at Go Dance, a ballroom dance studio in North Austin.  Click here for more information.

Sundays

The Austin Swing Syndicate often hosts dances at Ruta Maya.  Check the Swing Syndicate website for details and a schedule.
