Buster Brown: The Very Best of Buster Brown
Buster Brown is a role model for late bloomers and a source of inspiration for those who dream of blooming late. The Georgian bluesman had not released any recordings until he was 48, when his "Fannie Mae" shot to the top of the R&B charts and to #38 on the Pop charts. Although he did not match that commercial success, he did record several better songs in the years following "Fannie Mae," putting all of his short, stocky frame into blowing his harmonica like none other and producing some great, fun, "down-home" jump blues. This CD compiles the best of those recordings, including two surprisingly-original recordings of two staid swing standards: "St. Louis Blues," and "Is You Is or Is You Ain't My Baby?" The surprise comes from how anyone could inject new life into such ubiquitous tunes. The CD contains at least seven great, danceable songs that will take you down to the juke joint for a little back-room dancing. |
